Dugger, Maria "Dode"

Class of 2024

Maria (Dode) Dugger has made significant contributions to rodeo, marked by her impressive accomplishments and dedicated service to the sport. Raised on the Eiguren family ranch in Arock, Oregon, Dode began riding and roping at an early age. After moving to Boise, Idaho, at 14, she continued her rodeo journey, which led to her marriage to Steve Dugger in 1972.

Dode’s rodeo career took off in 1978 when she attended a roping school and developed a passion for team roping. She became an active member of the Idaho Girls Rodeo Association, participating in competitions and holding leadership roles. Dode excelled as a heeler and, with her horse Ben, began heading, achieving a notable career highlight by winning a saddle.

Throughout her career, Dode competed in ACTRA and USTRC team roping’s across the Northwest and Nevada until 2004. A standout moment in her career was winning the high point roper title and saddle at Lonesome Dove, In Eagle, Idaho in 1997.

Beyond her personal accomplishments, Dode has made lasting contributions to the rodeo community. She established the Nevada/Idaho Crisis Fund to aid team ropers and their families facing medical crises and founded Spurs and Spikes in 2012, a golf and team roping event that has raised over $300,000 for rodeo families in need. Her efforts also include serving as the ACTRA National Crisis Fund coordinator and receiving the ACTRA Lifetime Award in 2019.

Dode’s legacy in rodeo is highlighted by her dedication to both competition and community service, making her a deserving inductee into the Idaho Rodeo Hall of Fame.
