Dugger, Steve

Class of 2024

Steve Dugger’s impact on rodeo in Idaho is marked by a lifetime of dedication and significant contributions. Raised in Nampa, Idaho, Steve began his rodeo career in 1966, competing in bareback riding and bull riding through high school. He transitioned to team roping in 1976, winning his first rodeo buckle in 1978 at the Jordan Valley Rodeo. Known for his exceptional roping skills with his horse Bull Frog, Steve competed in amateur and Wilderness Circuit rodeos until 2013, even roping with his grandson Taylor at age 62.

Steve’s contributions extend beyond personal success. He was deeply involved in high school rodeo starting in 1985, serving as the Timed Event Director and District 2 High School Rodeo President. He also played a key role on the State and National High School Rodeo Boards, including a three-year term as Idaho State High School Rodeo President and seven years as Idaho National Director.

As a pioneer in Idaho’s rodeo community, Steve was the first ACTRA director for the state, significantly expanding the organization’s reach over 15 years and earning a Lifetime Award in 2016. He also produced team ropings, provided cattle for major events like the Caldwell Night Rodeo and Snake River Stampede, and offered his horses for practice and competition.

Currently, Steve continues to compete and support rodeo, having won seven buckles in Arizona during the winter of 2023-2024. His facility in Wittmann, Arizona, is a hub for rodeo enthusiasts, and he remains dedicated to mentoring and supporting young competitors.

Steve Dugger’s extensive achievements and unwavering support for rodeo make him a deserving inductee into the Idaho Rodeo Hall of Fame.
