Hoggan, Jay

Class of 2023

Jay started his rodeo career at an early age. Jay participated in High school rodeo competing in Bareback, saddle bronc, bull riding, calf roping, team roping and steer wrestling, a true all-around cowboy. In the early 90’s Jay started his own Rodeo Company eventually known as Red Eye Rodeo, producing rodeos in Utah, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. One of his biggest achievements is his rodeo stock breeding program. Animals from his program would be sold to PRCA stock contractors such as Bud Kirby, Cotton Rosser, Frank Beard, Hank Franzen and Dan Russell. Numerous bulls and horses of his were featured at the National Finals Rodeo. The list of his award-wining stock produced is truly amazing. Carrying titles of Horse of the Year, Horse of the Finals, Bull of the Year and Bull of the Finals.
Jay prided himself on halter breaking all of his studs. When pens where not available, you could find a string of his bucking horse studs tied to the fence until they were needed to buck.
Aside from Stock Contracting Jay was a talented pickup man. Picking up for Hoggan Rodeo, Red Eye Rodeo, Silver Lining Rodeo, Diamond G Rodeo and Western Rodeo.
Jay’s greatest contribution to rodeo could arguably be the numerous cowboys that he has mentored over the years. Many went on to perform at the professional level and compete at the NFR.
