Karen Fain

Class of 2018

Karen Fain was born in Fairview, Utah on January 17, 1942, then raised in Ft. Green, Utah. She was the oldest of six children and helped her dad with mostly sheep and turkeys, though they also had a few cows, hay and grain.

She started playing the piano at age 6, then the trombone in 6th grade. In high school she spent three years in the school concert, marching band, and pep band. At Snow College she was also in the pep and concert bands. She also sang in various groups and choirs.

Karen graduated from North Sanpete High School, Mt. Pleasant, UT. She graduated from Snow College in 1962, and Utah State University in 1964, where she majored in Elementary Education, minoring in English and History. She met her husband Jim in the summer of 1961, while working at the North Rim Inn, Grand Canyon. They married in 1964 after graduating. Her education proved valuable as she could teach and help put her husband Jim through school. More so, she was able to tutor her kids when on the road.
