McDowell, Jill

Class of 2023

Jill rodeoed from a young age. During high school, Jill ran barrels, tied goats and any other event she could enter. After college, Team Roping was her event of choice. She joined the Idaho Girls Rodeo Association, later becoming a Gold Card member. Jill had many wins in her career, but the year-end saddle in 1976 was one of the special memories. Jill and her husband Okie produced team roping’s all over the Treasure Valley, ultimately owning and operating the Hi Horse Arena in Nampa.
The Hi Horse Arena held team roping’s, playdays, jr. rodeos, high school rodeos, roping schools and rough stock practices under Jill’s direction. Jill convinced some PRCA Cowboys to come to Hi Horse and put on roping schools.
After retiring from competition Jill stayed involved by timing and announcing. If not working Jill would be found taking pictures at every event and youth rodeo she could. She gave away more photos than she ever charged for.
